Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland, and while only very rarely fatal, it can be both frightening and disfiguring, especially where diagnosis is missed and treatment is delayed.
Our doctors have many years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. With the benefit of specialist training in skin microscopy and surgical procedures we are well placed to ensure the health of your skin.
Where necessary we will perform skin biopsy to diagnose suspicious skin lesions. In most cases definitive treatment can be offered on site, however if necessary we will request involvement from our hospital colleagues in dermatology and plastic surgery.
There are roughly 13,000 cases of skin cancer diagnosed yearly, with this figure expected to double by 2040. 90% of these are related to sun damage. 90% are curable if detected early.
All patients will be offered a full skin examination. Please do not wear make-up or tinted moisturiser on the day as this can prevent effective assessment.
